The Spiritual Side of Yoga with Alpacas:
​Why Alpacas Are Sacred In Andean cosmology, alpacas are not just animals they’re gifts from the gods.
1. Pachamama (Mother Earth)Herders believe alpacas come from Pachamama, the Earth Mother. They’re cared for with gratitude, not domination.
2. Apus (Mountain spirits)Each mountain has a spirit, an Apu, who protects the herds. Herders often make offerings before moving the alpacas to new pastures.

3. Rituals and offerings
Traditional ceremonies include:
Pago a la Tierra (Payment to the Earth) Ch’alla (libations of chicha beer)
Despachos (offerings of coca leaves, sweets, and herbs)

4. Alpacas as symbols of abundance
In Quechua and Aymara culture, alpacas represent: prosperity harmony with nature balance between humans and the land

People often describe them as grounding.
